New website for NorthWest Photography

Cheshire Wedding Photographers

After a lot of consideration we decided recently to update our website. The old one had served us well for 2 years but we wanted a new site that reflected the contemporary style of our photography. The new site, which went live today, is created using Flash graphics and so is not 'search engine' friendly. For this reason we have kept th old 'text based' site online and now give visitors the choice of viewing the new or old site by making a choice on the first page. We hope you like the 'new look' and your comments and suggestions are very welcome. You can view the new site by clicking the picture above.

Wedding 12 September 2009 - The Village Hotel Bury

Jenny and Paul Bowyer

The wedding of Jenny and Paul took place at the lovely St Wilfred's Parish Church in Mobberly and the palatial Cranage Hall in Cheshire. This wedding was unusual because it was photographed entirely by Danielle Calder and not Mike McCann. The weather was fantastic and the locations perfect for what was a classic wedding. Danielle was on top form and took some great balck and white artistic pictures along with a few of the more 'traditional' poses. A hint for all you prospective wedding couples. The shots of 'the boys' look particularly good because they were wearing dark grey/black suits. These look fantastic in photographs. However there is a current trend to wear brown suits. They look quite smart but most outdoor locations are green/brown in terms of background and a lot of indoor locations have brown panelling or cream walls which really doesn't present the brown suits very well. I would always recommend bright colours for the bridesmaids and black/grey for the boys!

Jo and Lee had a great day ! Perfect weather and some really fun guests. The day started for us at Jo's house where we photographed her and the bridesmaids getting ready for the wedding. She was then transported to the Flowry Fields Church on a georgeous horse drawn carriage that caused a real stir as it travelled through the streets. The guys also arrived in style in a hude stretched Hummer! A lovely ceremony was followed by a meal at the cosy Glossop restaraunt 'Dowd's', but that wasn't the end of the celebrations. After the wedding breakfast everyone headed to a local Chinese restaraunt that had been booked for the night. The happy couple and guests danced the night away to some great live music. It was a long day for us as we were asked to stay until the first dance - but the pictures made it worth it. Thanks Jo and Lee for a really fun day.

Asian and Ethnic Weddings

Over the past few years Northwest Photography have shot many weddings from differing cultures and religions. We have great experience of Muslim, Hindu Sikh ceremonies as well as non religious Humanist weddings. To showcase how colouful and varied these weddings can be we have compiled a short video below.

The wedding of Jon and Katie Carr

A very different wedding this one ! Jon and Katie booked us at the 'last minute' and the wedding was in a part of the world we don't visit very often - West Yorkshire. The day started with myself and Danielle visiting Katies family's home to photograph her as she got ready. She was still at the hairdressers when we arrived but we were well looked after and made to feel very welcome by her father. When she did appear, Katie looked lovely. The ceremony itself took place in a lovely B&B high up on the Yorkshire Moors near Huddersfield - called The Moorland Lodge. Just 12 guests witnessed the wedding, but if was cosy, friendly and intimate. After the wedding breakfast it was back to the house where family (cousins, aunts, uncles etc) were waiting and a buffet was served. And so to the third venue of the day! Off we went the to The Old Golf House Hotel in Outlane for a large evening celebration. Another cake was cut, the dancing began and over 100 people turned up to wish the happy couple a long and happy marriage. Thank you Jon, Katie (and Mr Sharp and all the family) for your kind words of thanks, your hospitality and for allowing us to share such a special day.

"Dear Mike and Danielle  .. Thank you so much for doing such a great job with our wedding photos. We had a wonderful day... Jon and Katie"

The wedding of Emma and Peter Brooks

A multi-cultural wedding this one! Emma works in my local Chinese take-away and was working one evening when in walked Peter. Peter became a regular customer and a friendship developed between the two of them. One day when Peter opened his take-away bag he found her telephone number on top of the food. How romantic! The wedding took place at The Chimney House Hotel near Sanbach, Cheshire and our day started photographing the arrival of the guests - Emma did not want anyone to see her dress prior to the ceremony, not even us. There was a great mix of people from all over the world, so it was a suprise when the guests sat down to eat that a traditional roast dinner was served (with chopsticks!). Relatives of Emma own a florists, so one of the highlights of the day were the fantastic flower arrangements that filled the hotel. Thank you Emma and Peter for allowing us be part of your special day (and Emma, mines a Chow Mein with Prawn Crackers next Thursday!)

"Hi Mike I hope you are well. Firstly can Emma and I say a big thank you for your efforts on our wedding day? We really love the photos and can’t wait to see a first draft of the photo-book. In addition we have heard nothing but great comments from our guests on the photos and how fantastically you managed to capture the happiness of the day. Thanks again Pete"

Nigel and Karen

 "Hi Mike

We just wanted to say how fantastic the online photos are from our Wedding Day last week. There have been so many compliments and people asking me who the photographer was, and saying how well you captured the spirit of the day. We had a magical day, and we don't know where the time went. We didn't get chance to thank you on the day, and we will write formally to express our gratitude.

Kind wishes"

The wedding of Lisa and Michael Pendlebury

Cars, cars and more cars. It's not often at a wedding that the cars take centre stage before the ceremony, but this was certainly the case with Lisa and Michael's special day. Michael arrived first in his Porsche, the bridesmaids arrived in a spectacular stretched Hummer and stretched Lincoln Town Car and the bride arrived in a vintage style convertible Beaufort ! The day started for us photographing the ceremony at Monton Church as the bride did not want any pre-wedding preparation photographs. After the ceremony there was a long drive to The Dunkenhalgh Hotel near Blackburn where the formal pictures were shot and the reception took place. Michael is a tailor by profession and so the guys were all dressed immaculately with hand embroidered linings in their jackets. My assistant Danielle has a few 'signature shots', and one in particular was terrific today. We asked Michael and Lisa to stand at a nearby bus stop and Danielle photographed some superb artistic Black and White pictures.

Our Favourite Venues - Sandhole Oak Barn

A purpose built Oak Barn located just outside Congleton in Cheshire and next to a large lake make this a glamourous venue for those couples with a larger budget. What makes this place worth every penny is the professionalism of the owner David Worth. At no other venue do I see the owner present at every wedding, making sure everything is just perfect. The barn is located next to a courtyard surrounded by rooms that can be booked by guests. If the weather is good this place is perfection - if it rains it can be difficult photographing the larger group pictures (but we do provide you with 36 umbrellas just in case!)
